About the event

Wachau Solstice in Spitz an der Donau

On June 21, 2025, one of the most impressive and atmospheric festivals of the summer awaits you in the idyllic Wachau region: the Wachau Solstice. When thousands of torches illuminate the Spitzer vineyard terraces and the banks of the Danube, the landscape is transformed into a magical sea of lights – a spectacle you shouldn't miss!

Customs with tradition

The solstice is deeply rooted in the history of the Wachau and is celebrated with great devotion. In the Spitzer vineyard terraces and along the Danube, over 3,000 torches are lit , bathing the valley in a warm, festive glow. Particularly impressive are the majestic woodpile fires on the 1000-Eimerberg and at the Danube embankments on both banks of the Danube , which shine brightly into the night.

Symbols of history and culture

The Wachau Solstice is not only a visual highlight, but also a celebration of history. Historical and cultural symbols are artfully recreated with torches, lending the night a very special atmosphere:

  • The Red Gate is rebuilt with torches – an impressive reminder of Spitz’s past.

  • A large cross on the Singerriedel hill watches over the Danube Valley and gives the festival a spiritual touch.

  • Hammer & Iron , the symbol of mining, is drawn with torches on the Vorderer Atzberg and reminds us of the rich history of mining in the region.

  • The Hinterhaus ruins , one of the most impressive sights in the Wachau, are illuminated in soft torchlight, giving the spectacle a mystical aura.

A collaborative effort full of commitment

Behind this impressive event lies a tremendous commitment from the local community. Over 500 volunteers put their heart and soul into making this special night possible. Their dedication ensures everything runs smoothly and makes the festival what it is: an unforgettable night full of tradition and community spirit.
